How I work

I love working with people in ways which support them to engage with themselves and their experience. I have been working with clients as a counsellor and psychotherapist since 2004 and I work with clients both on a short and longer-term basis.
I work ‘humanistically’: in my work with clients I start with where the person is in the process of coming to terms with an issue or experience. I won’t try to fit someone into a pre-existing model of growth or change. My approach to counselling and psychotherapy is also integrative, this means I use a wide range of techniques and diagnostic models from both traditional and modern psychotherapeutic disciplines depending on what seems to me to be the most suitable at the time. Most therapy sessions involve talking: some also involve drawing, role-play, visualisation or other exercises.

Some of the issues I work with include;

  • Depression
  • Self-esteem
  • Loss and grief
  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Relationships
  • Anger
  • Cultural difference and identity
  • Dealing with change
  • Sexuality and sexual orientation
  • Parenting
  • Managing long-term illness
